In 1995, the Victoria Advocate launched the Knowledge Bowl to help increase literacy in the Victoria area by supporting the Victoria Adult Literacy Council (VALC). Your sponsorship of this event will help the VALC continue its important work!
The VALC all about second chances.
Our dedicated staff and volunteer tutors give adults not only a chance to improve their reading and English speaking skills, but also help those adults who need to pass a test for getting job training, gaining employment, or advancing in their job. Trained staff also works with those who have literacy difficulties because of learning/reading disabilities. This second chance to learn the skills that can most help them improve their lives, and those of their families will help break the cycle of intergenerational illiteracy that abounds in our country and area. It’ a moving experience to see hope in the eyes of those we’ve helped when they talk getting a better job by improving their English and learning new skills.
Please help us build a better community through better educated, more productive citizens. You can make the difference by sponsoring the 2013 Knowledge Bowl and helping us make it the best one ever!
It's a lot like trivial pursuit but more challenging and fun! Teams answer a variety of questions based on subjects including history, arts, literature, science, geography, pop culture, and current events. Answers are tabulated and winners are announced!
Trophies will be awarded in each division. Winning teams will be featured in the Victoria Advocate.
Form a four-person team and play! Mail the completed form and the $100 entry fee to P. O. Box 7114, Victoria TX 77903-7114, or register online below. The registration deadline is Monday, February 11. After you enter you'll receive a registration confirmation packet via email.
Proceeds benefit the Victoria Adult Literacy Council, a non-profit agency whose purpose is to increase adult literacy through free instruction and community outreach in order to improve the workforce and raise the quality of life in the Victoria area.
