Victoria Rotary Club
Will Ring the Bell for
Salvation Army

Our Club will ring the Salvation Army Bell on Saturdays from 9am to 12noon at the James Moody Post Office on Sam
Houston.  Sign-up on the website for one hour or for all three shifts on any Saturday beginning November 26 and ending Saturday, December 24.  Bring your kids or a friend to help.  Your shifts count as a make-up.  It is easy duty and your help will make a difference to  those in need at this holiday season.  If you can help, let Linda Caldwell know.

In 1993, the Victoria Advocate launched the Knowledge Bowl to help increase literacy in the Victoria area by supporting the Victoria Adult Literacy Council (VALC). This year’s Knowledge Bowl, presented by the Advocate and the Rotary Clubs of Victoria. Your sponsorship of this event will help the VALC continue its important work!

What is the Victoria Adult Literacy Council all about? The VALC is all about second chances. Our dedicated staff and volunteer tutors give adults not only a chance to improve their reading and English speaking skills, but also help those adults who need to pass a test for job training, gaining employment, or advancing in their job. Trained staff also works with those who have literacy difficulties because of learning/reading disabilities. This second chance to learn the skills that can most help them improve their lives and those of their families will help break the cycle of inter-generational illiteracy that abounds in our country and area.

It’s a moving experience to see hope in the eyes of those we’ve helped when they talk about getting a better job by improving their English and learning skills.
